Performs, under the supervision of a registered ultrasound technologist, a variety of diagnostic examinations associated with the operation of ultrasound equipment to produce diagnostic images of designated portions of the body. Observes all regulations concerning patient privacy and professionalism. Provides appropriate age specific care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric individuals. Assures confidentiality of patient information, departmental and hospital affairs. Actively participates in department growth, student mentorship and team building. Commits to teamwork and displaying a positive and professional demeanor.

Reports to: Ultrasound Lead Tech, Assistant Director and Director of Radiology

Essential Functions: 

Operates stationary and portable ultrasound equipment in all imaging divisions with direct or indirect guidance of a registered ultrasound technologist, as required by the extern’s competency and proficiency level.Works under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered ultrasound technologist while performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations.Provides care for patients by maintaining a positive and professional atmosphere as well as addressing their physical needs.Assures confidentiality of patient information, departmental and hospital affairs.Administers age specific (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) patient care promptly according to the patient’s plan of care.Assures appropriate orders are obtained and followed during the performance of all procedures.Verifies patient identification before performing any procedure.Adheres to all Departmental and Hospital policies and procedures.Assist in staff functions such as registering patients, general office duties, filing, and transporting of patients.
Will perform additional duties, as assigned.

Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or GED required.Senior Ultrasound Technology student of an approved Ultrasound Technology Program.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:BLS required
Registry eligible
Computer: Basic computer skills
Clerical: General knowledge of clerical duties

Must be able to work in a stressful/fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.Proficient in ultrasound examinations, knowledge of ultrasound equipment operations: PACs and RIS proficiency preferred.
