How you'll contribute
A Scheduler who thrives in this role will:
- Perform surgery scheduling - responsible for scheduling all procedures/testing for all providers within the practice.
- Be responsible for managing work queues to notify all departments of ordered testing.
- Maintain proficiency in use of EPIC system for placing orders/prep for case and documenting needed information in appropriate place. This also includes scanning.
- Be responsible for running and reconciling the failed fax transmission report (daily)
- Be responsible for obtaining correct CPT and ICD 10 codes prior to obtaining authorizations for Plastic Surgery procedures/testing. Will work with coding/billing staff to ensure that appropriate coding procedures are gathered.
- Be responsible for ensuring appropriate consents are completed for surgical procedures, copied for office records and submitted to appropriate contacts at hospital and/or office.
- Be responsible for ensuring patient's insurance is active and eligible for date of procedure/testing.
- Be responsible for contacting insurance companies and obtaining authorizations for all procedure/testing being performed. Authorizations must be obtained prior to procedure/testing being performed.
- Be responsible for notifying ASU, Centralized Scheduling and insurance companies when there are changes in procedure and/or dates.
- Responsible for informing patient of all testing/procedure information, preps, special instructions, pretesting, etc.
- Communicate with Physicians, Practice Manager and clinical staff when appropriate paperwork, authorizations, and/or consents are not complete prior to procedures being performed.
- Answer all incoming phone calls in a courteous manner. Returns all phone calls same day before leaving for the day.
- Obtain statistics as requested by Practice Manager
- Attend assigned and/or scheduled in-service education meetings and staff meetings.
- Promote an environment that is conducive to employee and patient safety.
- Be flexible with workload, schedule and location to meet the demands of the office.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with departmental and health system policies and procedures.
- Maintain office equipment and ensure they are in good operational order.

What we're looking for

- Computer experience required
- Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
- Medical terminology, billing, and/or collection experience preferred.
