Position Summary: 

Performs receptionist, registration and clerical duties associated with scheduled patient admissions including but not limited to answering phones, filing, chart preparation, pre-registration calls, and collecting payments.

 

Reports to:  Lake Cumberland Surgery Center Business Office Supervisor

FLSA:  Non-exempt

Required Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Essential Functions:

  • Organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to prioritize work based upon patient/department needs.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to, computer, copier, telephone, fax, scanner.

  • Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

  • Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients and/or family members.

  • Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. 

  • Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions. 

  • Verifies insurance benefits and obtains authorization/pre-certification, as necessary.

  • Determines and accepts required payments, including co-payments, deductible and coinsurance. 

Minimum Work Experience:

  • One year experience in a healthcare environment with medical terminology and billing/insurance experience preferred. 

  • Computer experience required.

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, Preferred   or

 At least three (3) years of directly related experience may be substituted for the   required education
