Summary:
The Senior Network Security Engineer is responsible for interfacing directly with end-users and vendors to assess, recommend, design, and implement network security solutions, firewall rules, and policies. Manage Palo Alto, Cisco, Fortinet security devices. Conduct regular network reviews to identify opportunities to improve security posture. This role requires a strong networking, infrastructure, systems, and software background and will focus heavily on designing, deploying, managing, securing, and troubleshooting enterprise security infrastructure. The ideal candidate should be a self-starter and self-motivator, flexible, and able to excel at multi-tasking and flourish in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as Network Security lead on multifunctional project teams within IT and across lines of business.
- Participates in network security planning, design, and implementation efforts.
- Serves as an escalation point for complex network security and remote connectivity challenges; collaborates cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams to gather requirements, design secure solutions, and communicate best practices.
- Provides subject matter expertise on network security, firewalls, zero-trust architectures, and industry best practices.
- Designs and implements firewall rules to support business needs while maintaining adherence to security policies and best practices.
- Configures and maintains firewalls, VPN, and IPSEC tunnel solutions. Vendors include Palo Alto, Cisco, and Fortinet.
- Configures and maintains Palo Alto Prisma Access SASE to secure internet egress for locations transitioning to SD-WAN, partnering with network engineering and other teams on broader deployment efforts.
- Works with the Cybersecurity team to identify opportunities to improve network security and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
- Performs periodic firewall reviews, evaluates against company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best-practices.
- Configures, deploys, and supports VPN clients across multiple platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android) while performing advanced troubleshooting of complex connectivity and performance issues.
- Applies upgrades, system patches, performs periodic maintenance, and continuously improves the reliability and security posture of the environment.
- Works with management to develop, communicate, implement, and maintain network policies, standards, and procedures.
- Automates network security operations using scripting (Ansible, Python, PowerShell, REST APIs) to eliminate manual, error-prone changes.
- Access to and / or works with sensitive and / or confidential information.
Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Education: BS/BE degree in computer science, cybersecurity or related IT fields, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years' experience as a Network Engineer or Network Security Engineer in a large-scale inter-network environment with proven complex network support experience.
Certifications: PCNSE, or other intermediate to advanced level industry recognized certifications preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
- Established experience implementing and supporting Palo Alto Networks solutions.
- Additional experience with Cisco and Fortinet desirable.
- Prefer experience with Google Cloud and Azure Cloud networks.
- Experience supporting networks with multiple routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, eBGP, and static routing.
- Able to perform troubleshooting via protocol analysis and firewall log review.
- Effective oral and written communication skills required to lead planning and troubleshooting discussions, and to interact daily with end users to understand and provide solutions to business problems.
- Ability to deliver solutions that are clearly defined, systematically executed, and results oriented. Adherence to the organization's project and change management processes and standards is required.
- Ability to perform technical consulting and problem-solving within a complex enterprise.
- Current working knowledge of MS Office 365 products for daily support and communication.
- Remote environment adequate to support daily technical and professional activities.
