Position Summary:

Reports to: Director Patient Financial Services
FLSA: Non-exempt

A Senior Patient Access Representative is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the Patient Access Area. Provide new hire training and to assist staff with training as needed. In addition, responsible for knowing/doing all aspects of the Patient Access job duties. Responsible for the accurate registration of all patients seeking access to hospital services. Will also be responsible for answering and transferring calls to the appropriate departments. Assists in up front collections of time of service.

  • Handles up-front collections, including verifying deductibles and co-pays with insurance companies and informing patients of payment responsibilities
  • Assists in resolving bill payments efficiently, offering payment arrangements and financial alternatives
  • Ensures thorough documentation of all patient account actions
  • Supports self-pay patients with financial payments
  • Assists with patient registration and hospital admissions as needed
  • Helps PFSD create staff schedules and maintain adequate coverage
  • Models and enforces AIDET guidelines in all patient interactions
  • Promotes and demonstrates excellent customer service
  • Assists management in setting and maintaining department goals for Patient Access
  • Oversees daily registration operations to ensure department standards are met
  • Provides new hire training and supports PFSD in educating staff on role-specific updates
  • Ensures staff have the necessary training and tools to meet accuracy standards, reduce registration errors, and minimize claim rejections and denials
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director and/or Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of third-party payer admissions, registration requirements, and medical terminology
  • Minimum four years of experience supporting hospital patient access staff
  • Experience in clerical work, collections, credit, and healthcare accounts receivable billing
  • Proficiency with automated systems and electronic devices
  • Experience in staff training and developing training materials
  • Ability to work across multiple leadership levels, set priorities, multitask, and remain composed in challenging situations
  • Must handle confidential information with discretion
