Directs the Surgical Services, PACU, Ambulatory Services, Ambulatory Infusion, and Central Sterile Processing department activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

Essential Functions: 
Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical,administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Collaborates with physician leaders, Administration, peers and colleagues to plan, design, and implement customer-focused, coordinated delivery of patient care services and clinical programs.

Seeks, analyzes and enhances patient care and services to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of the customer. In collaboration with Corporate Compliance, Risk Management and other deemed necessary, will investigate all incidents, accidents, complaints and grievances.

Performance review includes recognition of active participation in briefs, debriefs, huddles, learning boards, and executive patient safety rounds.


Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Required Skills Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is required

License: Must have a current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of North Carolina or from a compact state.

Minimum Work Experience:  In lieu of a bachelor's degree - ten years of experience in surgical services is required with five years minimum experience in a surgical services leadership role.
