POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Speech Language Pathologist / SLP you will:

•    Play an important part in helping our patient to recover and feel better about themselves by providing therapy to maximize speech, language, cognitive and swallowing abilities.
•    Communicate patient progress or problems to supervisor and other team members; assist with patient scheduling and post charges daily to patient records.
•    Document patient care in accordance with Lifepoint, regulatory, licensing, payer and accrediting requirements.
•    Instruct patient's family or nursing staff in follow-through programs.
•    Maintain equipment and work area in a safe and clean condition.
•    Make presentations to support marketing efforts, at team conferences and in-services.
•    Handle job responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Code of Business Conduct, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, appropriate professional standard and applicable state/federal laws.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Licenses: Current NC licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist.

Minimum Education: Graduate of Master’s level program in Speech Language Pathology.  

Certifications:: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physically, the SLP is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on his/her feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent.  There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases. Radiation exposure during modified barium swallow studies is monitored by prescribed standards of the Imaging Services Department. Mentally, he/she is required to reassure distressed and frightened patients, motivate resistant/apathetic patients, support grieving patients and families; respond to patient emergencies and physical plant emergencies with calm efficiency; and carry the emotional burden of working with individuals who are disabled, sick or dying without it impairing his/her job performance.
