As a Unit Secretary, you will play an important role in supporting the daily operations of the nursing unit by facilitating communication, maintaining accurate information, and providing administrative support to patients, families, nurses, providers, and other members of the healthcare team.

How you'll contribute

A Unit Secretary who excels in this role:

  • Provides clerical and administrative support for the nursing unit.
  • Answers and directs telephone calls and communicates messages to appropriate staff.
  • Greets and assists patients, visitors, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintains accurate patient information, records, and unit documentation.
  • Assists with coordinating communication between nursing staff, physicians, ancillary departments, patients, and families.
  • Organizes and maintains the nurses' station and necessary supplies.
  • Performs data entry and other computer-based administrative duties as required.
  • Supports the nursing team with additional clerical duties to promote efficient unit operations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and follows hospital policies and procedures.

What we're looking for

Applicants should possess strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. Additional requirements include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Basic computer and data-entry skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information appropriately.
  • Previous clerical, administrative, or healthcare experience preferred.
