Essential Functions
Performs inoculation, cultivation, isolation, and identification of microrganisms per established laboratory policy.
Examines physiological, morphological, microscopic, biochemical, and cultural growth characteristics to identify microorganisms in human specimens.
Performs susceptibility testing on bacterial isolates per established laboratory policy.
Receives and analyzes laboratory microbiology specimens and reports results in a timely manner.
Performs order entry, phlebotomies, and collects other specimens such as urine drug screens when necessary.
Performs laboratory testing in all areas of the laboratory to include Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Coagulation, Immunohematology, Microbiology, and Chemistry.
Performs routine maintenance tasks as designated for laboratory analyzers in all areas of the clinical laboratory.
Performs calibrations and quality control when required and is responsible for verifying the integrity of such testing.
Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.
Performs proficiency testing and linearity testing as assigned to maintain accrediting body compliance.
Assists in keeping policy and procedure manuals up to date.
Assists in keeping supplies at adequate levels by completing weekly departmental inventories.
Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activities.

Job Requirements
Minimum EducationBachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to communicate with a wide range of individuals in a constructive and professional manner.
Certifications: MT or MLS (ASCP) or MT (AMT) or MT(HEW) or MT (NCA)
