Position Summary:

Assists with duties of Director of Pharmacy in his/her absence. Works with Director to strategize, implement, and monitor various Pharmacy and CPOE programs to meet the need of the department, hospital and corporate initiatives. Directs efforts in promoting safe efficacious CPOE and Pharmacy computer systems at RGH. Supervises the compounding, dispensing, ordering, and proper storage of all pharmaceuticals. Directs the work of technical staff in a competent manner. Assists in medication monitoring functions of the Medical Staff, as defined by its by-laws, TJC and Medicare conditions of participation. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with the medical staff and other hospital personnel. Fulfills other assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks not specifically listed within this job description and as directed by the employee's director of administrative representative. 

Essential Functions:

Provides oversight and direction to CPOE and related Rx OE program enhancements.

Strategize with Pharmacy Director to effectively enhance CPOE and OE improvements to maximize clinical and operational productivity to meet RGH and LifePoint goals.

Provides guidance in establishing pharmacy automation strategic goals and objectives and assist in their implementation.

Coordinates automation of processes related to drug formulary management and cost reduction.

Coordinates automation of processes related to maximizing formulary medication management through RGH's Systems of Order Entry

Actively participates in orientation, competency training, assessment and OE performance evaluation of pharmacy staff with CPOE feedback to physicians Assists.

Provides leadership in meeting or exceeding TJC, CMS, WVBOP, and LIFEPOINT OE standards, best practices and initiatives.

Serves as the primary liaison for all pharmacy automation and reporting, CPOE build and maintenance, Rx Is monitoring, maximize enhancements, and training of Medical Staff, Administration, IS, Nursing and others as warranted.

Fulfills others assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks not specifically listed within this job description including actively representing and promoting pharmacy on hospital-appointed committees.

Reports to: Pharmacy Director


Minimum Education
Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy Program Required

Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Required Licenses
[West Virginia, United StatesPharmacist
Current licensure in the State of WV

Minimum Work Experience
Previous pharmacy practice experience preferred. Previous automation experience preferred but not required. Experience with pharmacy and healthcare computer systems or programming experience, especially CPOE, preferred but not required.
