Job Summary:

  • As supervised and delegated by a registered nurse, provides direct patient care in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice

Job Duties:

  • Under the direction of an RN, contributes to the assessment of patients by collecting data for analysis by an RN.
  • Performs plan of care interventions, including specimen collection and wound care. May administer
    medication. Documents patient care given.
  • Assists RN with development of plan of care.
  • Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates patient's status and reactions to interventions with RN, physician, patient, and families.
  • Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Observes central monitor screens, interprets, recognizes and records changes in patient's rhythms and notifies nurse as appropriate.
  • Handle with Care participation annually or CPI participation every 2 years.

Job Requirements:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire or must be obtained within 90 days of employment, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of employment.
  • License: Current TN LPN licensure
  • Six months to one year experience as LPN in medical/surgical unit preferred. New Graduates will be considered.
  • Practical Nursing Diploma required
