Position Summary:
The Physician Services Clerk provides quality customer service to patients and performs those functions delegated and assigned by the Office Manager. This role supports front office operations for Centerpoint Walk-In Clinic and Centerpoint Business Health - Georgetown.
Reports To: Office Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
FTE: Part-Time
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree preferred
Experience/Knowledge:
Knowledge and experience with computers, coding, and medical terminology preferred
Required Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle stress in a positive manner
Essential Functions:
- Carries out front office activities in a kind and courteous manner and is helpful to patients and families
- Notifies Office Manager of customer complaints in a timely manner
- Gathers and updates patient demographic information in the practice management system
- Notifies patients of long wait times and offers alternatives
- Ensures effective telephone communication and documents messages accurately
- Coordinates all EMR/medical record activities
- Collects and posts payments and ensures security of all monies
- Schedules patients and manages appointment flow efficiently
- Performs insurance eligibility verification and obtains prior authorizations as needed
- Researches patient accounts to educate on balances and collect payments
- Performs appointment reminder/confirmation calls
- Completes required in-services
- Participates in patient satisfaction improvement initiatives
- Makes referrals to other medical team members when appropriate
