How you'll contribute 

A Clinical Dietitian who excels in this role:

  • Plans and implements patient nutrition care in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, evidence-based clinical guidelines, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Nutritional Services Manager to ensure accurate and appropriate food service is provided to patients.
  • Completes annual competency assessments and maintains a professional growth and development portfolio to sustain required registration, licensure, and/or certification.
  • Performs duties in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, organizational policies and procedures, and evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Practices within the defined Scope of Practice.
  • Participates in the development and management of the department budget.
  • Contributes to the planning and implementation of the hospital's strategic initiatives in support of its mission and vision.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures related to patient nutrition care.
  • Participates in the hospital's performance improvement program by collecting, aggregating, analyzing, and acting upon data related to key clinical nutrition indicators.
  • Develops the annual QAPI department plan, including all required components, and presents monthly reports to designated hospital committees in accordance with facility policy.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities to ensure oral nutrition therapies provided through the culinary department are safe, accurate, and compliant with established standards.
  • Participates in regulatory surveys by instructing staff on appropriate conduct and disclosure requirements, maintaining an active presence during survey activities, coordinating the timely collection of requested information, implementing corrective actions as appropriate, and collaborating with other departments to develop plans of correction when needed.
  • Serves on committees as required by organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and/or assignment by the immediate supervisor.


Direct Patient Care 

  • Conducts initial assessments and reassessments on all patients admitted to the hospital. 
  • Ensure proper completion of documentation (assessments, care plans, education, discharge planning) 
  • Prescribes nutrition therapy to meet estimated needs and monitors tolerance 
  • Provides ongoing reassessment to ensure optimal nutrition therapy is provided 
  • Participates with interdisciplinary team meetings to develop, implement, and monitor the nutrition care plan 
  • Interviews patients, family members, legal representatives, and/or significant others to obtain diet history, food preferences, and other pertinent information needed to develop and/or update plan of care 
  • Advocates for patient to protect and promote patients' rights, and accommodate individual needs and cultural/religious preferences. 
  • Involves the patient/family in planning objectives and goals for the patient. 
  • Conducts nutrition education individually and in classes to patients, families, staff, and community as appropriate. 
  • Conducts meal rounds to ensure patients are receiving therapy that meets patient's needs 
  • Coordinates with culinary department to resolve patients' concerns or dissatisfactions with diet or meal service.

 
What we're looking for

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or higher in dietetics or nutrition related field. Additional requirements include:

  • Registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • State licensure/certification if required by the state. Registered dietitians awaiting approval of state licensure/certification may practice under a provisional license if the state licensing board allows.  Provisional dietitians must have all documentation in the medical record co-signed by a state licensed dietitian.
  • Previous experience in acute care setting is strongly preferred

 
Schedule: PRN (on call)

This position does not have a set weekly schedule. You'll be called in to work when extra help is needed-such as covering for someone, handling busy periods, or filling gaps in the schedule. Hours can vary from week to week, and there's no guaranteed hours.
