Lead Respiratory Therapist

Examines patients with breathing-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing.  Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient.  Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.  Leads daily staff activities for an assigned area or function.

Reports to: Director Respiratory Care & Neurodiagnostic Services

Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzer.
Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
Evaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practices.
Responds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatment.
Educates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resources.
Monitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylinders.
Maintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipment.
Disassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machines.
Determines, coordinates and leads daily staffing assignments and levels
Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to staff. Performs or assists with
performance evaluations and disciplinary actions in coordination with Director.
Assist RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.

Minimum Education
Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy - Required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Computer skills required.

Certifications:
BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) - Required to be current upon hire.

ACLS and PALS from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) and NRP Certification - Required within 12 months of employment, if not current upon hire
Required Skills
Licenses: Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with ABG endorsement. Temporary initial licensure letter by the State of Tennessee as a graduate respiratory care practitioner, acceptable, without ABG endorsement, until state licensure is issued.
Minimum Work Experience
1 year of Respiratory Experience in hospital setting Required
