ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as leader and provides direction and supervision for laboratory staff, new employees and students as assigned. Demonstrates knowledgebase of hospital and laboratory policies.
Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusions. Collects other specimens such as urine screens when necessary.
Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner. Performs calibrations and quality control when required and is responsible for verifying the integrity of such testing.
Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.
Performs manual tests based on detailed instructions from a physician.
Runs tests and analyzes the results to be reported to the patient, physician or registered nurse.
Participates in hospital wide and departmental performance improvement activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum EducationAssociate preferredBachelor’s Degree preferred
Graduate of program discipline in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications:One of the following Certifications required:MT or MLS (ASCP)MT (AMT)MT (HEW)MT (NCA)
