The Clinical Education Coordinator- Systems Specialist develops, instructs, supervises, and evaluates evidence based educational programs for clinical staff of Trios Health. This position provides formal training and informal training for a variety of clinical information systems. The systems specialist works in collaboration with the Lifepoint Center of Excellence to test and develop Hospital Information Systems and provide end-user support. In addition, this position will assist with coordinating annual clinical competencies, facilitate orientation and onboarding of new staff and will work with a wide variety of groups within the hospital environment including but not limited to department leadership, CNO, quality, education and IT departments to enhance clinical efficiency and quality of patient care through utilization of the HIS.

Essential Functions 

  • Participates in development and implementation of evidence-based nursing education programs ensuring that the programs address the assessed learning needs of nursing staff.
    • Teaches in accordance with current class outline/course objectives.
    • Assumes primary responsibility for projects or task groups as assigned, keeping colleagues informed of the progress towards desired outcome.
    • Provides HIS education during new hire orientation and as needed.
    • Collaborates with clinical directors to ensure that identified learning needs of the clinical staff are promptly addressed and that orienting employees receive the proper preparation to become independent practitioners.
    • Responsible for testing and analysis of the Hospital Information System (HIS) clinical modules by providing ongoing software and end user support in collaboration with Lifepoint Center of Excellence.
    • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates both formal and informal educational and professional development activities, including orientation, staff updates, and ongoing continuing education.
    • Provides front line support during go-live of new clinical systems and upgrades to existing systems; provides super user assessment and training.
    • Promotes awareness of the importance of data validity and data security.
    • Creates, develops, and updates clinical education materials.
    • Demonstrates expert use of clinical information systems and provides clinical content expertise in systems problem solving and development. Maintains expertise with clinical information systems by active participation in ongoing work groups and training initiatives.
    • Synthesizes data about quality measures which lead to needed improvements in standards of care, development or revision and implementation of policy and procedures.
    • Develops and executes training and education on the floor, via e-learning, and in classroom environments when needed.

Qualifications and requirements 

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college (or equivalent combination of education and experience)- Required
    Bachelor’s Degree- Preferred 
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in acute care setting; experience in clinical information systems- Preferred.
  • Required Licenses - Active WA State- Required
