Position Summary:

Sovah Martinsville is seeking a full-time night shift Medical Lab Technician to perform routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory.

  • Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.
  • Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.
  • Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Phones Critical Values according to policy.
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned by supervisor and according to policy.
  • Performs quality control testing.
  • Follows specimen rejection policies and procedures.
  • Follows troubleshooting procedures to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC problems.
  • Documents remedial actions whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.
  • Maintains supplies needed for the performance of tests.
  • Assists with the teaching and training of new employees.

Minimum Education:
  • Associate's Degree with medical technician training, preferred.
  • 50-week US military medical laboratory training course and a minimum of 2 years experience, acceptable.
Required Skills:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Typical Physical Demands: These may require extended periods of standing or sitting. Some bending, stooping, or stretching is required. May require lifting and carrying 5-25 pounds. Requires full range of motion including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Requires ability to communicate and interact with others in person and on the phone. Also requires a high degree of mental alertness and the ability to handle a high degree of stress and/or irregular work hours.
Required Certification/License:
  • MLT certification (ASCP), AMT, NCA, or other national certification preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
  • 1 year of medical laboratory experience post-training preferred.
