Position Summary:

SOVAH Health in Martinsville, VA., is seeking a PRN Radiation Therapist whose responsibilities include the planning of radiation therapy which includes localization of target volume, construction of blocks and immobilization devices, and the calculation of the radiation dose. Accurately deliver radiation treatment and ensure correct parameters, appropriate documentation, and the maintenance of audible and visual communication during treatment. 

  • Verifies patient identification before performing any procedure.
  • Is responsible for planning radiation therapy treatment which includes the localization of the target volume, construction of custom blocks and immobilization devices, calculation of radiation dose, and other planning procedures as required.
  • Accurately delivers the prescribed course of Radiation therapy treatment assuring the correct treatment perimeters, appropriate documentation, and maintenance of visual and audible communication during treatment.
  • Communicates necessary verbal and written instructions regarding treatment reactions, skincare, and diet restrictions to the patient and reports reactions and side effects to the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Is responsible for the proper operation and safety of equipment used to localize and deliver Radiation Therapy.
  • Assists in the preparation, insertion, and film verification of radioactive materials as required.

Minimum Education:

  • Completion of ARRT-approved course in Radiation Therapy.
  • Current Certification by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.

 

Required Skills:
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Proficient in planning and delivering Radiation Therapy.
  • Knowledge of Radiological equipment, and computer skills.

Typical Physical Demands:
  •  Full range of motion of upper and lower extremities. Moving and/or lifting patients and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Pushing equipment > 100 pounds. Dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal ranges. Standing and/or walking for extensive periods. Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable disease and/or body fluid which requires the use of body substance isolation precautions.

 

Required Certification/Licenses:

  • Current Certification by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider required.

 

Minimum Work Experience:

  • One year of Radiation Oncology experience preferred.
  • Membership and participation in local, state, and professional organizations preferred.
