Position Summary:

The PACU is a unit that provides direct patient care to recovering patients from surgery using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.

  • Performs duties as assigned and requested.
  • Completes a focused patient assessment with reassessments based on patient’s condition, procedures, medications given and treatments.
  • Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain
    management techniques.
  • Performs patient care and communicates effectively with patients of all ages and specific needs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and the patient’s clinical condition. 
  • Follows the 6 rights of medication administration to reduce the potential for medication errors.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring
    technical and manual skills.
  • Performs treatments and provides services to the level of licensure.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Educates patient and family on disease process..

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 6+ months experience preferred

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 12 months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 12 months of hire

License:

  • Registered Nurse licensed to work in the state of Kentucky
