Minimum Qualifications:

Cath Lab Tech

Position Summary:

The Cath Lab Services Cardiovascular tech will perform the following duties:

  • Prepares the suite in a timely manner by ensuring the cleanliness of the suite, fresh linens, setting up sterile procedure trays with proper equipment for the designated exam. Ensures equipment is working properly.
  • Enables the patient to be moved safely onto the procedure table and prepares the patient’s procedure site according to proper aseptic or sterile technique, making sure the site is clear of obstruction that hinders radiologic imaging.
  • Assists Cardiologists with diagnostic heart catheterization, and peripheral vascular intervention procedures in the role of sterile scrub assistant who anticipates the needs of the physician to complete the exam.
  • Achieves and maintains hemostasis of a arterial or venous puncture site post-procedure. Reports the presence of a stable hematoma to the physician and monitoring nurse.  Recognizes and immediately reports the need for assistance from the physician in case of an abnormal hemostasis emergency.
  • Operates angiographic equipment and modifies its parameters as necessary to properly visualize, record, and guide Cardiologist’s placement of needles, wires, catheters, balloons, stents.
  • Operates physiologic/hemodynamic monitoring computers during cardiac catheterization. Records and announces intra-cardiac pressures and cardiac rhythms to physicians during the procedure.
  • Administers contrast media via IV cannula, arterial access catheter, venous access catheter or drainage catheter per Cardiologist’s order and monitors patient response to contrast.

Risk Management

  • Standards – Assures patient safety and minimizes risk liability.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital policies/procedures.
  • Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to manager.
  • Appropriately completes variance reporting.
  • Actively participates in departmental quality improvement.

Documentation

  • Assures complete and appropriate documentation of patient care.
  • Ensures accurate and timely performance of billing functions.
  • Correctly identifies the images from the procedure to be permanently stored on digital media from which the physicians will, afterward, be able to adequately dictate the scope of the procedures including the method of performance, the supplies used, the importance of the images taken, the size and nature of any temporary or permanently placed devices, and the result of diagnostic or interventional procedures. Will select and permanently store these images on the appropriate recording device for medical records and copies of the records will be sent to the physician offices.
  • Assists with maintaining the appropriate amount and scope of supplies needed to carry out the daily operations of the Lab by reporting needs and shortages to appropriate personnel or filling out and submitting order forms to Materials Management.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Paramedic license in the state of Iowa
  • BCLS, ACLS

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Two years prior experience with general vascular and/or coronary angiography preferred.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:

  • Current Active Iowa RT(R) Licensure

Xray tech

Position Summary:

The staff technologist is responsible for performing radiographic exams, including portables, surgery, and trauma. They are also responsible for secretarial duties related to patient care during weekends, evenings, night and holidays. They will assist with Quality Improvement projects. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job. Willingness to perform other duties as assigned is required.

EDUCATION

Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.

EXPERIENCE 

ARRT registered or registry eligible with experience in general radiography. Possess good written and verbal communication skills. Has the ability to work independently, complete tasks, and flexibility to adjust to high volume workloads. Ability to perform basic computer functions. Interacts positively with patients, physicians, and staff. Demonstrates ethical and professional conduct.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

ARRT registered or registry eligible with a current Iowa Permit to Practice.

BCLS required.
