POSITION SUMMARY & PRIMARY DUTIES: 

Surgical Tech Facilitates the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures. Under the delegation of authority of a licensed health care practitioner, the Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team during the operative procedure through management of resources on the sterile field.  The assigned role of the Surgical Technologist is the Scrub Nurse role under the guidance of the Staff RN, who is assigned to the Circulating Nurse Role for the procedure.  The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Understands the procedure(s) performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Within their scope of practice, the Surgical Technologist is responsible for the safe care of the patient, including the responsibility for ensuring effective communication with the Charge Nurse, the Patient, other staff, physicians, and other hospital departments.  This individual will be responsible for on-call surgical cases, as needed. A critical attribute required of this position is exceptional interpersonal customer service consisting of an outgoing positive attitude, warm, friendly, joyful demeanor, and the utmost care and respect for our guests, patients, families, customers, and colleagues. Reports to: Director of Surgery/OR 

FLSA: Non-exempt Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. 

Preferred License: N/A 

Required Certifications:        Current Registered Surgical Technologist in Washington State. Current BLS Certification (or within 30 days of hire)

Preferred Certifications:        Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Minimum work Experience: Need to have at least 6 months on the job at another facility. 

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Essential Functions: Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments. Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients. Passes instruments to the physician during surgery. Continually accounts for the number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery. Receives and processes specimens for delivery to the laboratory. 

Non-Essential Functions 1. Position serves both internal co-workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors. 2. Access to and/or works with sensitive and/or confidential information. 3. Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA). Skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices. 4. Perform other duties as assigned.
