Join the Patient Access team at Starr Regional Medical Center, where you'll play an essential role in creating a positive first impression for patients and families while helping ensure a smooth and efficient registration experience. Our team works in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment that requires adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to exceptional customer service. We are currently seeking dependable, flexible PRN team members who can support a variety of shifts, including weekends, and help us continue providing excellent service to our community.
How you'll contribute
A Patient Access Representative who excels in this role:
Greet patients and visitors, providing a welcoming, professional, and positive first impression of Starr Regional Medical Center.
Complete accurate and timely patient registration for outpatient services and inpatient admissions.
Collect, verify, and enter patient demographic, insurance, billing, and other required information into the registration system.
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtaining precertifications or authorizations when necessary.
Determine and collect applicable patient payments, including co-pays and deductibles, at the time of service.
Identify patients who may need additional financial assistance and refer them to financial counseling as appropriate.
Explain registration forms, required documentation, and relevant information to patients and families.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, clinical staff, and other departments to support an efficient registration and admissions process.
Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive demographic, insurance, and financial information in accordance with established policies.
Navigate multiple computer systems while maintaining accuracy and providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
Exercise sound judgment, prioritize competing responsibilities, and resolve routine registration concerns with minimal supervision.
Provide coverage across varying shifts and registration areas based on departmental staffing needs.
Participate in required training, continuing education, and departmental performance improvement initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned to support Patient Access operations.
What we're looking for
Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent, preferred. Additional requirements include:
Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and compassionately with patients and families.
Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced, patient-facing environment.
Strong attention to detail when collecting, verifying, and entering patient information.
Critical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and remain calm and professional during busy or stressful situations.
Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple computer applications and registration systems.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive patient and financial information.
Ability to successfully complete the required Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.
Schedule: This is a PRN/as-needed position with current staffing needs of approximately 30-40 hours per week. Candidates must have flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends. Specific shift times and schedules will be discussed during the recruitment process. Hours may fluctuate based on departmental needs and are not guaranteed.
Potential shift times include:
6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
4:00 PM - 12:00 AM
