Position Summary:

Performs routine laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory.  Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Performs common testing procedures and reports test results. Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Performs quality control testing.
  • Draws blood from patients of all age groups.
  • Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
  • Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology.

  • Performs blood group, type, screens for unexpected antibodies and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
  • Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.
  • Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data. Engages in medical research under direction of Chief Medical Technologist.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
  • Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data. Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.
  • Trains and supervises students.
  • Maintains all instrumentation and quality control of that instrumentation in assigned area(s) of responsibility. Keeps supplies inventory for assigned laboratory section(s) at appropriate levels.
  • Trains technologists working in area(s) of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Work Eligibility: We are not offering sponsorship for this role, and you need to be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Education: Must have a bachelor's degree or higher. Bachelor's degree in medical technology, Chemistry or Biology is preferred. College transcripts may need to be provided.
  • License: ASCP certification is preferred
  • Certification: BLS certification within 60 days of hire
