Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a physician, provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to patients in an assigned area/service. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview, and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
  • Documents patient care performed, assessments made, and orders given.
  • Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
  • Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
  • Provides care in the context of promoting age- and culture-appropriate informed choices, shared decision making, and the right to self-determination.
  • Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements, including all state, TJC and Federal regulations in their area of practice.
  • Attends and participates in department staff meetings; reads and signs all meeting minutes as acknowledgement of information received; demonstrates compliance and knowledge of new changes within department and hospital.
  • Consistently supports the mission, vision and goals of the organization. Acts in a positive, proactive manner to support department and hospital efforts in the community and with co-workers.
  • Complies with annual TB and Fit Testing requirements as it related to the job.
  • Has demonstrated an awareness and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals as applicable in their area of practice.
  • Knows, understands, and adheres to system/hospital/department policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates and takes responsibility for workplace safety. Exhibits knowledge regarding the hazard and injury reporting procedures.
  • Complies with Confidentiality/ HIPAA requirements and observes patient privacy needs.
  • Understands Cultural/spiritual diversity issues as they relate to the job; is cognizant of patient's cultural differences and includes spiritual health as a component of patient care.
  • Practices proper infection control techniques and understands importance of following IC requirements.
  • Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings and pertinent seminars.
  • Completes mandatory annual education requirements.
  • Maintains all licenses and certification in good standing and active.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 60 days of hire date and maintained.

License:

Utah state Nurse Practitioner license
