Position Summary:

The Radiological Technologist performs routine radiographic examinations to patients of all ages consistently demonstrating knowledge and practice of radiation safety. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Imaging Department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures and skills check lists. Must be able to respect diversity of each individual's values, culture, spiritual beliefs, and other socio-economic issues in addressing the needs of patients, visitors, and co-workers. Participates in performance improvement activities and effectively interacts with patients, families, and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional imaging care. The scope of practice of the radiology technologist also includes Introducing oneself appropriately to the patient and putting the patient at ease. Performing procedures as prescribed by a LIP. Assisting in maintaining patient records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with team members, all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families and other contacts. Must possess the ability to effectively function in a stressful environment.

Certifications:

X Basic Life Support (BLS) within 60 days of hire

The following are required of each level of a Radiology Tech:

  • Radiology Tech I: Practical Tech with current Utah State License does not require (ARRT)
  • Radiology Tech II: Radiology Tech (ARRT)(R) Performing General X-ray
  • Radiology Tech Ill: RT and competent in CT
  • Radiology Tech IV: RT and competent in NM or US, or registered in mammography or competent in MRI
  • Radiology Tech V: Registered in US (single registry) or registered in CT or performing mammo QC registered in MRI
  • Radiology Tech VI: Registered in US(single registry) plus one of the following:
  • Competent in MRI or Registered in MRI
  • Radiology Tech VII: Registered in two US modalities or registered in NM ARDMS & RDCS or ARDMS & RVT or RDCS & RVT
  • Radiology Tech VIII: Registered in three US modalities, ARDMS & RDCS & RVT or Registered in NM plus mammo or CT registry
  • Radiology Tech IX: Multiple modality tech, registered in five plus registries

Required License:

[Utah, United States] Radiologic Technologist and Technician

Successfully pass a certification examination by ARRT in radiology. State licensure for Utah. Maintain certification & licensure with appropriate continuing education requirements.

Required Education:

Two years of college X Preferred

Graduate of an accredited school of Radiology Technology and ARRT Registration Required

Must be able to obtain BLS within 60 days of hire
