Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the needs of the department with a focus on clinical, operational, and administrative excellence. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality behavioral health nursing care to patients experiencing mental health and substance abuse disorders while ensuring compassionate, safe, and effective treatment delivery.

Essential Functions
- Assess the patient and plan care within established timeframes and document findings according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Oversee and supervise assigned shifts while ensuring quality patient care and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrate leadership through delegation of duties including groups, close observation, meal supervision, and related responsibilities.
- Oversee staff to ensure nursing policies and procedures are followed and exemplary patient care is consistently delivered by all team members.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and respond appropriately, including physician notification when necessary.
- Follow hospital policy for medication administration and maintain safe medication practices.
- Consistently use empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients and families.
- Deliver quality nursing care to ensure treatment plan goals are properly executed in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and nursing competencies.
- Assist with and perform comprehensive nursing assessments for all patients.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
- Support a safe therapeutic environment for behavioral health patients and staff.

Additional Information
Reports To: Nurse Manager or Chief Nursing Officer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Previous experience in a psychiatric healthcare facility preferred, including direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric, and geriatric patients. Experience in patient assessments, family motivation, treatment planning, and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Education
Associate Degree in Nursing required.
Licensure
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in accordance with state regulations required.
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)/De-escalation certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

- Ability to work effectively in a behavioral health environment
- Strong communication, leadership, and critical-thinking skills
