Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist on 2nd shift.The Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for collecting, preparing and analyzing specimens, and reporting this information in a prompt manner to the physician for the diagnosis and treatment of their patients. A complete list of procedures performed is located in the competency assessment. Techs are expected to work independently, without direct supervision. If direct supervision is required to perform any testing or result reporting, this will also be documented on the competency. Section Supervisors/Assistant Section Supervisors are responsible for direct observations of competency testing.

Essential Functions:

Able to perform/knowledge of all items in the Competency Assessment Booklet and takes initiative to complete competencies within different areas (blood bank, histology, etc).

Accuracy in performing patient testing.

Proficiency testing scores of 95%.

Accuracy in performing QC/corrective action/failures/documentation with less than 5 errors per year.

Maintains phlebotomy proficiency and meets collection time standards.

Meets turn-around-time standards.

Completes all testing following state and federal guidelines.

Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.

Performs duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with minimal need for supervision. Uses time constructively for maximum productivity.

Treats all co-workers, patients, families, and visitors with consideration to their rights, cultural diversity, privacy, comfort and emotional needs. Serves as a patient advocate and fosters a work culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and huddles.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:

Medical Technologist or Scientist: Bachelor of Science degree is required. 

ASCP or CLS certification or a minimum of 15 years of direct experience is required.

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Working irregular hours at times.

Good computer skills.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Attention to detail.
