Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for our Operating Room. The RN provides direct operative patient care as part of a highly trained team of professionals.

The hospital provides 24/7 emergency care as an accredited chest pain center, and offers comprehensive outpatient, imaging, diagnostic, and specialty services. Essential Functions:

Perform interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.

Perform interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.

Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.

Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.

Perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.

Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.

Protect the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical and thermal sources.

Documents patient care given accurately and completely.

Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting.

Perform accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items.

Transfer care as applicable - use handoffs for reporting aids

Involve the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.

Manage the patient’s specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.

Maintain required competencies.

Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.

Communicate the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.

Administer medications safely and correctly.

Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.

Assess the knowledge level of the patient or designated support person.

Provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.

Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice.

Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.

Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.

Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment and a professional attitude when relating with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.

Performs duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with minimal need for supervision. Uses time constructively for maximum productivity.

Treats all co-workers, patients, families, and visitors with consideration to their rights, cultural diversity, privacy, comfort and emotional needs. Serves as a patient advocate and fosters a work culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and huddles.

Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.

Job Requirements:

Education:

Graduate of a RN program required.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Required Licenses:

Current nurse’s license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories required. 

Basic Life Support (BLS).

Required Skills:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Must be able to work irregular hours including call hours.
