The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for pharmacy operations including planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising activities in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as the off-site physician practices. The director interacts collaboratively with other Hospital Departments and serves on various committees. Responsible for safety and effectively managing the medication management system in its entirety and complying with and meeting all regulatory agency standards. The Director of Pharmacy is accountable for the strategic direction and financial and clinical outcomes of the department.

Essential Functions:

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical,administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.
Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.
Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.
Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding.
Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.
Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
Ensures department stays focused on their important role in the continuum of care.
Reviews medication errors with staff and takes appropriate action to prevent repetition errors.
Responsible for pharmacy purchasing and inventory control.

Minimum EducationPharmacy degree (BS or PharmD) required
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Licenses: Current and valid North Carolina Board of Pharmacy license or eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina.
Minimum Work Experience2 or more years experience in a lead or supervisory role in a pharmacy.
