Clinical Lab Techs perform diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. They will perform a variety of routine and complex testing ranging from waived to high complexity testing in all sections of the laboratory, including Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, and Microbiology. Clinical Lab Techs participate in patient testing, quality control, CAP surveys, policy and procedure development, and equipment maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·         Assists staff in resolving issues and complex troubleshooting with instruments to ensure area is always able to report results.

·         Resolve technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from policies and procedures.

·         Establishes and monitors quality control programs as the technical lead of assigned area and administrative director direction.

·         Performs Quality Assurance work to ensure accuracy of equipment.

·         Technical leads are eligible for after shift hours for on-call pay including the coverage when Administrative Director is Unavailable.

·         Mentors and trains all staff and reports any training issues to the laboratory administrative director.

·         Verifies patient and specimen identification before performing any procedure.

·         Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.

·         Follows specimen rejection policies and procedures.

·         Assists in the Laboratory Information system with direction from Internal IT and Lifepoint Lab Meditech team. LIS functional training and process improvements. Will require LIS dictionaries access to perform certain features. Meditech Circle access will be approved by the Admin Director and IT Director.

·         Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.

·         Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.

·         Performs automated tests using computerized instruments & automated equipment.

·         Maintains technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to resolve instrumentation, testing, or QC (Quality Control) problems.

·         Set up new procedures and instrumentation under the technical lead direction consulting with Medical Director when appropriate.

·         Utilizes the laboratory and hospital QA/PI plans to continually improve processes and designs.

·         Maintains sufficient inventory of supplies and takes steps to reduce waste.

·         Manages the teaching and training of new employees and designated to verify competencies for technical responsibilities of area lead.

·         Assists Administrative Director with management of operations, human resources, and finances when called upon in absence.


Minimum Education

Associate's degree with medical laboratory technician training and 2-5 years’ experience in hospital/medical laboratory.

Bachelor’s degree in biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or medical technology, clinical training.

Certifications:

Completion of a certified clinical laboratory science program affiliated with accredited agency.

ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification required.

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Computer: Meditech experienced preferred. Basic Microsoft Office suite

Minimum Work Experience

3 years of experience preferred in hospital clinical laboratory.
