Position Summary: 

Physician Services Administers exercise program, functions as an athletic trainer working with local Schools athletic programs and participates in coverage of all athletic events and practice sessions as an athletic trainer. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training Required; 
  • Master's Degree Preferred in Human Development and Leadership or similar field. 
  • Current State Registered Athletic Trainer License for State of Kentucky; or Current State Physical Therapist License for State of Kentucky; or Current State EMT License for the State of Kentucky and Certified Professional Trainer (NATABOC) Certifications: 
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certificate or obtained within 30 days after hire date. 
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. 

Essential Functions 

  • Adheres to requirements and responsibilities as outlined by the Kentucky Board of Athletic Trainers. 
  • Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the financial, personal, medical or employment status of Students/patients/families. 
  • Perform public speaking on topics related to sports medicine. 
  • Serves as liaison between athlete, coach, doctor and parents. 
  • Provide immediate care (first aid) of athletic injuries. 
  • Provide education and counseling. 
  • Prepare athletes for practice or competition including taping, bandaging, wrapping, and bracing. 
  • Developing conditioning and injury rehabilitation programs. 
  • Instructs athletes and families in rehabilitation procedures. 
  • Assist in coordinating and providing specific coverage for athletic events both home and away. 
  • May work in a variety of settings, including local schools and community recreational facilities. 
  • Works cooperatively with and under the direction of an affiliated physicians in providing sports  medicine and emergency care services. 
  • Recognition and evaluation of injuries to decide if the athlete needs further medical treatment. 
  • Communicate with other hospital personnel and physicians regarding athletes’ condition.
