The OR Assistant will function as a member of the surgical team under the direct supervision and direction of the registered perioperative nurse. 

The OR Assistant assists in the OR function by cleaning and preparing operating rooms, safely transporting patients, retrieving and decontaminating equipment, stocking general supplies in the operating rooms. 

May provide limited patient care by assisting with opening supplies before surgery. 

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:
 • Assist with patient care as directed by RN, this may include transporting patients, assisting with patient admission, care transfer, and discharge
 • Assist RN to provide appropriate environment, equipment, transport devices, and supplies according to age, size, weight and condition of patient 
• Report all observations concerning patients to RN
 • Utilize infection control principles, maintain orderly, clean, safe environment, may utilize Aseptic Technique, while performing duties
 • Support department as needed by ordering and organization of forms, and by maintaining stock levels
 • Assist with changeover activities
 • Be possibly requested to cross train and to assist with orientation of perioperative assistants
 • Demonstrate commitment to teamwork, by contributing to the team to meet department needs, offering assistance to others, carrying fair share of the workload, and coordinating patient care with other members of the team
 • Contribute to resolving conflict. Utilize problem-solving skills to promote a positive work environment and seeks assistance in resolving conflict when needed 
• Demonstrate department accountability; contribute to and attend department staff and/or education meetings; participate in department projects or committees; use downtime productively 


Qualifications: 
Required qualifications for this position includes:
 • High School Diploma -OR- GED
 • Must obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire
 • Basic computer skills are desired

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.    Ability to lift and move at least 50 pounds.
2.    Ability to see colors, see at least 1 mm squares.
3.    Ability to remain calm, continue to function effectively and develop priorities during stressful situations.
4.    Ability to communicate clearly healthcare team. Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information and follow-up. 
5.    Requires manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
6.    Ability to move and operate equipment and carry supplies.
7.    Ability to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.
8.    Ability to remain focused and organized.
