Job Description: Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions.

Reports to: Department Manager

 

Responsibilities of the Position

Greets patients and handle check-in/check-out process, including use of Clockwise system.

Ensures that all necessary demographic, billing, and clinical information is obtained and entered in the registration system with timeliness and accuracy.

Distributes and explains forms, documents, and educational handouts to patients or family members.

Meets with patient or patient's caregiver before or after admission to exchange necessary information and documentation. Provides explanation of process and addresses concerns and questions.

Communicates with admitting physician's office, nursing unit staff, and/or other appropriate personnel regarding admission to exchange necessary information and determine placement.

Verifies insurance benefits and obtains precertification/authorization as necessary. Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles, or refers to financial counselors for follow up.

Provides and completes IMM's & MSP's timely to be compliant.

Maintains Lobby and Registration wait time to less than 10 minutes.

Verifies insurance and runs estimators for pre-registration accounts.

Assists with front lobby as need arises.

Obtains authorizations to reduce denial rates.

Answers and responds to inquiries, forward messages from patients, pharmacies, and other providers to clinical staff according to company protocol.

Maintains accurate accounting of cash drawer during shift.

Calls patients to follow up on their visit to MAUC, as needed.

Maintains cleanliness and functionality of office, particularly lobby and registration area.

Other duties as required.


Minimum Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

Minimum Work Experience

Familiarity with the use of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to utilize practice management, EMR, and Clockwise software accurately and efficiently. Knowledge of insurance/medical terms and policies is preferred but not required. Efficient and accurate completion of daily tasks and data entry.

 

Required Skills

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Excellent interpersonal skills to handle patient and family interactions and interactions effectively and courteously with other staff. Professional appearance and manner.

Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions.
