Nurse Residency FAQs

What can I expect from the Lifepoint Health Nurse Residency Program?

The Nurse Residency is a 12-month transition-to-practice program for new RN graduates. The Residency consists of three phases: clinical competency, culture transition and leadership development. Throughout the three phases, you will be provided with consistent training, mentorship, feedback and support as you transition into clinical practice.

Is the Lifepoint Health Nurse Residency required for all new graduate registered nurses?

Yes – the Nurse Residency is required for all new graduate registered nurses who have less than one year of nursing experience.

What are the qualifications for this program?

New RN graduates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Hold an associate degree in nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Have less than one year of nursing experience

Can I apply without a state license?

Yes – new graduate RNs can apply to open registered nurse positions prior to taking the NCLEX.

I have an associate degree in nursing and am enrolled or plan to enroll in a BSN program. Can I still apply?

Yes – Lifepoint Health supports the professional development of nurses and will support new graduate RNs who are enrolled in a BSN program and transitioning into their first professional role.

My program allows me to take the NCLEX before I receive my degree. Can I still apply even if I will not receive my diploma until I complete the second portion of my program?

Yes – you can apply for an open registered nurse position prior to graduating from an accredited school of nursing. You will be unable to start in your position until you earn your degree.

How long is the Nurse Residency? Is it paid?

This is a paid, 12-month program.

What units will be accepting new grads?

Units accept new grads based on need and department support.

Who should I ask for letters of recommendation? Where should I send them?

When seeking letters of recommendation for new graduate registered nurse positions, it is important for you to select individuals who can speak to your clinical skills, work ethic and potential as a nurse. Examples of who to ask include clinical instructors or professors, former supervisors or managers, experienced nurses or mentors, physicians or medical providers and peers or colleagues. Your letters of recommendation may be uploaded during the online application process.

What information is important for me to include in my application?

Upload your cover letter and resume, being sure to include your clinical rotations. We want to know the hospital you were at, specialty, number of hours you spent on each rotation and which semester you completed each rotation in.
