Position Summary

Under minimum supervision, assists the Director of Surgical Services with planning, organizing, delivering, and coordinating patient care. The Registered Nurse – Operating Room preps, treats, and cares for surgery patients in accordance with the surgical and nursing plans of care and established policies and procedures. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN.

Reports to: Director of Surgical Services

 

Responsibilities of the Position:

Uses principles of aseptic technique to establish and maintain a sterile field.

Performs the role of the scrub nurse as needed.

Facilitates efficient completion of the surgery schedule.

Assesses, plans, evaluates, and ensures the implementation of the patient’s care to achieve identified outcomes and delivers safe patient care according to facility policy and procedure.

Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.

Checks updated schedule each morning and prepare supplies and equipment.

Reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patient.

Verifies surgical/procedure site with patient and according to surgical schedule and patient History and Physical.

Floats to other areas within Surgical Services as needed.

Communicates relevant information to physician and appropriate staff. Assist with various tasks throughout the departments, as needed and assigned by Director of Surgical Services.

Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited/ approved school of nursing with an Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing is preferred.

 

Certifications/Licenses

A current North Carolina or compact stated Registered Nurse (RN) license is required upon hire.

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.

 

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is preferred.

 

Handle with care is preferred.

 

Required Skills

Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

 

Minimum Work Experience

2 years of hospital based nursing experience is preferred, but not required.
